Leadership Competency Models. A competency model is a set of knowledge, skills, behaviors, or attributes that defines what is needed by a person to be effective in a particular leadership position. Chapter 7 of the course text introduces the concept of competency models and provides an example of a leadership competency model on page 253. Study the practice of competency modeling and existing leadership competency models. Using the Ashford University Library, search for a minimum of three scholarly sources on competency models and develop a competency model for a particular leadership position, such as college president, mayor, college athletic coach, or chief executive officer.

Criteria of Leader Effectiveness. The purpose of this assignment is to examine similarities and differences in criteria of effectiveness for several familiar leadership roles. In a three- to four- page paper (excluding the title and reference pages):

Identify the criteria by which the effectiveness of the following leaders might be evaluated: an assistant coach, a teacher, and a minister. Prioritize and explain the rationale for these criteria.

Discuss any ethical issues or challenges associated with prioritization.

Compare and contrast the extent to which there are unique or similar criteria across the different roles and

Leadership Evaluation. The purpose of this assignment is to explore how leadership is formally evaluated in different organizations. In this assignment, examine and analyze the process used to evaluate leaders in a specific organization. Obtain a copy of a leadership performance appraisal form from an organization. To do so, contact an organization’s human resource department or conduct an Internet search.

Once you have obtained a sample form, provide the following:

A brief summary and overview of the form.

Identify any gaps in the knowledge and skills assessed.

Compare the form to the different techniques used to measure leadership effectiveness.

Identify what the organization could do to improve the leadership evaluation process and make

recommendations for improving the process.

Leader Traits. The purpose of this assignment is to identify the traits frequently associated with leadership effectiveness and explore advantages and disadvantages associated with trait approaches to leadership. For this assignment:

Provide a brief overview of the leader’s role that includes the following: Name and title of the leader,
His or her specific role/position,
The name and industry of the organization.  Identify qualities that are important to his or her success.  Provide examples of how some leaders with similar traits were successful in very different fields as well
as how equally successful leaders may not share all the same traits.  Analyze how differences in the various situations faced by different leaders may impact leadership

Theories of Motivation. The purpose of this assignment is to apply the motivation and job satisfaction theories to a specific situation. Describe the theories and key assumptions on what motivates people or makes them satisfied. Apply one of the theories to a specific situation related to motivation you have witnessed or experienced professionally. In your paper:

Discuss how useful this theory is in explaining the lack of effort or the high performance of employees.

Provide examples of the advantages and disadvantages of this particular theory in explaining employee

motivation or job satisfaction.

Define each of the major motivation and job satisfaction theories listed: need theories, individual

differences, cognitive theories, situational theories, and job satisfaction.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these theories.

Describe and provide details of a specific situation in the workplace related to motivation from your own

professional experience.

Apply one of the theories to the situation.

Organize your paper using the following outline:

Final Paper Preparation

In preparation for your research, select an individual currently in a leadership position. The person must be responsible in some capacity for other employees, and the person must be an individual that can be researched.

Overview

In your overview of the leader, include:

The leader’s name and title.

His or her specific role or position and responsibilities.

The name, industry, and description of the organization, including the culture of the organization.

The length of time the leader has been in his or her current position.

A brief history of the leader’s background and career path to his or her present day leadership position.

Analysis

Your analysis should:

Describe, assess, and analyze the person’s leadership style. Be sure to provide specific examples.

Identify and describe three significant challenges they faced as a leader.

Identify and describe their greatest achievement, to date, as a leader.

Apply and correctly cite a minimum of three leadership concepts from the course to this leader’s roles and

responsibilities within the organization, their relationships with others, etc.

Use these concepts to help describe the person’s leadership style and assess what makes it effective or ineffective.

Reflect on what you learned about leadership from your research.

Reflect on the implications for your personal leadership style.
