ECE 340 Topic 6 Assignment Clinical Field Experience C: Literacy Lesson with Pre- and Post-Assessments

Allocate at least 2 hours in the field to support this field experience.

It is important to understand the role assessment plays in instruction. Pre-assessments assist teachers in identifying skills and abilities students currently possess, and what learning must take place to move students forward. Post-assessments provide teachers the ability to reflect upon the effectiveness of his or her teaching, as well as inform future instruction.

Based on input from your mentor teacher and literacy assessment data your mentor provides, create a mini-lesson plan using the “Literacy Mini-Lesson Template” to be implemented with a small group of students in your field experience classroom.

Your mini-lesson must include:

  • A state literacy standard in listening, speaking, reading, and/or writing that the class is currently working on
  • Objective
  • A pre-assessment of student skills in a particular area of literacy
  • A learning activity to develop student skills in the area of literacy
  • A post-assessment to determine the level of achievement of each student

Review your mini-lesson plan with your mentor teacher, and arrange to implement it with a small group in the classroom.
