William Eugene Smith Photojournalist Critical Essay The student will select a photojournalist of their choice and write a 1000-word critical essay on that person’s life and work. The essay should focus primary on the visual ideas, style, topics and approach the photographer is trying to use and how their images do that. It’s best understood as a statement about that person’s work. Using critical photographical analysis developed from the course materials, and the context of visual devices and storytelling, the essay must select, analyze and discuss at least three different images that serve as examples to the argument. Proper captions are required for all photos which may be difficult in some cases, however, news sources are not required for any of the images. Please note that in academic writing, references and citations do not count towards the final word count.
